On After. I think one of the main reasons of its success, is the fact that probably the readers see themselves as Tessa (she's an oc, so she's an empty canvas). It romanticizes the abuse (the bullshit about he wanting to change for her cause he fell for her), so these young impressionable girls picture themselves as the girl that stole Harry's heart. They don't see fictional characters, they see themselves as Tessa having an "epic" romance with a fucked up but beautiful Harry Styles.
I mean yeah. That’s the biggest motivator for them reading het Fics with OFC. Often it’s the motivator for the people writing it too.
I don’t know why this one got so popular, or why Dark got so popular. Both are properly fucked up stories that do nothing to address the issues.
And aside from the obvious issues surrounding abuse and complete defamation of Harrys character (fictional or not), the story is just /bad/. It’s poorly and lazily written, there’s nothing exceptionally original, there’s no character growth and development. There’s no moral to be taken away. The plot is boring and repetitive. The fact that it’s being published is an absolute joke. It’s a terrible “book”, and the only reason it’s being given attention is because of the views, and because the ppl behind it are banking on the success of 50 shades to propel this into something they can profit off of. No one is looking to publish it because it’s a /good/ book. And that’s why the issues at hand are being ignored, because money is on the line and nothing trumps that. It’s disgusting.
This girl is supposedly making 6 figures off this deal, and is doing nothing to acknowledge the problems she’s writing about. She could at least relate a statement about it, and maybe offer to donate part of her earnings to a women’s charity that focuses on domestic abuse.
Alas. Here we are. It’s honestly making me sick, it’s disgusting and gross. And she doesn’t seem to give a fuck about any of it.
